DISCUSSION

1. Sportsmanship

Role of District IV in supporting leagues and schools regarding inappropriate fan, and student behaviors. District IV has taken the stance that these behaviors

will be dealt with appropriately.  We will support the schools and leagues in these endeavors.  We also reserve the right to review these situations and take further actions if necessary.

2.  1/21 meeting with Mike Colbrese/Todd Storedahl

Different issues and concerns were discussed.  Mike/Todd suggested a meeting with all the assigning secretary’s to resolve the assigning fee issues.

3. Amendments for 2007

All amendments were reviewed, there are still some questions regarding interpretation

4.  Girls Wrestling

Meet at Kelso lost considerable money.  Some brackets only had three individuals

The number of girls starting the season diminished greatly by the end of the

season.  Question:  Now that girls have a state championship, next year are they still going to compete with the boys during the regular season?

5. Officials Selection meeting

Tim reported that the meeting did not go as smoothly as in the past.  The role of the Assigning Secretary’s needs to be further defined.  Tim handed out for discussion a proposed set of guidelines for the Committee and Assigning Secretary’s. The suggestion from Mike/Todd was discussed and it was felt that meeting with some 40 different assigning secretary’s at the same time would be counter productive.  A better solution needs to be examined.  The following comments were expressed by the Executive Board

            1.  Qualifications for a state tournament assignment

                        a. Three person certified

                        b. Pass the test

                        c. Do ten varsity games

2.  Officials do not have to be three person certified to do a district    tournament.

3.  Some associations use a rotating basis for selecting State Officials

4.  The WOA has guideline for assigning fees, but they don’t.

5.  Local associations do not have input to the WOA

6.  Too much politics

7.  The WIAA needs to negotiate state wide assigning fees.

8.  Assigning fees are to be negotiated, but only if they exceed the WOA guidelines.

9.  Whose is running the ship, WOA, Local Associations, or the WIAA?

Needless to say there are some very strong feelings concerning the above.

6.  District Tournaments

Director Frazer asked the District IV league representatives to discus with their leagues restructuring or combining those tournaments that are becoming less and less financially solvent. The District would like to help develop a more positive revenue stream back to our schools.
